ERWIN WURM

Object, installation, drawing, video and photo all form part of Erwin Wurm’s oeuvre, which can be subsumed under his radically broadened concept of sculpture. Born in 1954 in Bruck an der Mur in Austria, Wurm studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum, at the University of Applied Arts and at the Academy of Fine Arts, both located in Vienna. He came to fame with his “One Minute Sculptures”: there the artist takes pictures of himself or models posing in odd postures with all kinds of everyday objects. Wurm’s well-known automobile parodies – the bizarre Fat Cars and UFO – exemplify his typical sense of humour as much as his critical approach to cultural phenomena such as the fetishisation of private transport. Erwin Wurm is represented in some of the most prominent collections and museums in the world. He is based in Vienna, Austria.
